New students entering an Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) school in the fall need to register during the Options Enrollment period, check the OUSD website for more information, here.

Oakland Unified Options Process: A reminder for all parents, the Applications Options process needs to be complete by January 15 for any student attending a new school. This includes 5th Graders looking at Montera or another OUSD Middle School, or any SIBLING of a current Montclair student entering Kindergarten next year. Current students continuing at Montclair next year do not need to go through the enrollment process.

NEW STUDENT NEIGHBORHOOD ENROLLMENT FEBRUARY – MID JULY
If you move into the Montclair neighborhood boundary after February, and wish to enroll your child at Montclair Elementary, please contact the school office. A number of spots in all grades at Montclair will be saved after the initial Options Enrollment period for families who move into the Montclair boundary after February and wish to send their child to Montclair. If space is no longer available, neighborhood families will be able to select from seats that remain at other OUSD schools.

SUMMERTIME ENROLLMENT
If you wish to apply to Montclair during the second half of July and August when the school office is closed, please contact the OUSD Student Assignment Office.

INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFERS
It is expected that there will be a handful of open spots in the upper grades for transfers within the district. Families from outside the Montclair boundary may apply for an intradistrict transfer from January to February at the OUSD Student Assignment Office.

Please note:

  1. Registrations done within the enrollment period may guarantee you a slot. Some slots will be reserved for registration after the enrollment period. The principal of each school determines how many seats are reserved for late enrollments, based on their historical knowledge of the neighborhood and the enrollment numbers.
  2. Schools are identified for Program Improvement by the State, based on STAR test results, as required by the No Child Left Behind Law. If the school does not meet its yearly improvement target for two years, then it is identified as a Program Improvement school.

Students currently enrolled at the school do not need to re-register. The priorities and the process may be different for middle and high schools; please refer to the OUSD site for those.

You can identify your neighborhood school and learn more about the registration process at http://mapstacker.ousd.k12.ca.us, or by calling the Student Assignment Office at (510) 879-8111.
