First through fifth grades receive specialized art instruction during the school day from our art specialist, Kindergarteners have art interwoven into their daily lessons with their regular classroom teacher. The objective is to engage students’ sense of wonder and to help each student become creative, confident, and thoughtful creators and viewers of art.
The art program strives to encourage creativity, problem solving, independent thinking, persistence and risk-taking, as well as a willingness to implement ones own ideas and to refine them as necessary. The visual art program honors and empowers the student as artist; each student develops their art skills as a means to express their personal world, ideas, and emotions. Students also sharpen their perception and awareness by discussing and identifying visual elements, principles, and purposes of artwork. Each year students develop artistic knowledge and skill in a variety of media and techniques. Each year the students view and discuss various works of art from different periods and cultures. The visual art program uses the California Visual Arts Content Standards as a guideline, and the curriculum our art teacher has developed is unique to each grade level.
We are always looking for parent volunteers to help with the art program- working in the classroom, doing prep work, and more! If you would like to volunteer, please contact your room parent or the school office.
